Young Tennis athletes are urged to keep training and work hard to achieve more in the future.
The call was made by the president of the Solomon Islands Tennis Federation, Samuel Ramoni.
He said starting from an early is very good for the development of tennis in the country and for athletes.
“You are very young compared to when I started playing tennis at the age of 12.
“Keep working hard and train hard and you will achieve more in the future,” he said.
Ramoni made examples about athletes who took the same path and now become top tennis athletes in the Solomon Islands as well as in the Oceania region.
For Solomon Islands national tennis player, Michael Leong also made the same call encouraging kids to listen to the coaches and parents.
“You can compete in the Pacific region as well as in the region
“I want to advice to you to listen to coaches, listen to parents, train hard.
“Enjoy tennis, it can take you to places, open other doors like education and many more opportunities,” he said.
Leong is the first player in the Pacific region to play in the Junior Wimbledon and Junior Australian Open.
He is the main sponsor for the Kids Tennis competition prizes.
Tennis is one of the sports in the country that has many of its athletes compete overseas at a very young age.
Many like Leong has followed the same path and received scholarship to study and play tennis abroad as far as the United States of America.
