A private consultant says the importance of ward profiling is vital to the implementation of development projects, by the government and NGOs (Non Government Organization) in our rural communities.
Samson Maenuta made the comments during a short visit by the Solomon Star and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) to Rennell.
In an exclusive interview Maenuta stressed that ward profiling is the best approach for the National Government to gauge the level of development in every rural communities in Solomon Islands, before executing projects targeting livelihood of the rural people.
Maenuta pointed out that the government policy statement aims to improve development in the rural areas, however this could only be achieve once there are ward profiles, detailing the necessary needs of each communities in our rural areas.
The private consultant who is hired by the government to do ward profiling in Rennell and Bellona province said his survey in the communities there will enable the government, to identify priority areas of development for each region and village.
He said through this ward profiling it will enlighten the provincial government on its attempts to create a five years strategic plan that connects to the national development strategy.
Maenuta further pointed out that the survey to measure the development needs of different areas in our provinces is important for the government to see the level of gap in terms of development and connectivity.
Thus, five years plan by the provincial government will validate in their development strategy that linked to the policy statement of the National Government, he added.
Beside that Maenuta said through this ward profiling survey it will enable both provincial and national government to prioritize, strategize and implement projects that are relevant and related to needs of the rural communities.
Furthermore, he said by producing a fact-finding report of each districts and communities they would be in a better position to understand the development needs that demands collective efforts from the government, province, NGOs and MPs to boost development in the rural areas.
“This community profiling will ensure we put value to the money we spend on development.”
