NATIONAL team coach Felipe Vega-Arango told Star Sports players called up to join the national side will start training after the Solomon Cup.
The Spaniard hand pick Malaita Eagles duo Clifton Aumae, Andrew Raragia, Central Shield forward Kennedy Watemae and Martin Rence of Western Turtles.
Speaking to Star Sports on Tuesday, Vega-Arango said player’s commitment to their teams in the Solomon Cup should be respected.
“I know the players are representing their provinces and I will give them time before joining the national team training sessions.
“I have already spoken to MFA president Eddie Omokirio about the two Malaita Eagles players and looking at their fixtures, I would like them to join us for training later,” he said.
Central Shield centre forward Kennedy Watemae had his first training session with the national side yesterday.
When asked about his impression of Watemae in training, Vega-Arango said he needs time to adjust.
“I am happy for Watemae as he did pretty well in his first training with us.
“He needs time to reach the level of pace we are training at.
“The speed in the Solomon Cup is slower to our speed so he will need time to settle,” he added.
The Spaniard stressed Watemae will resume training when he is available after his Solomon Cup devotion.
He added for him it simple to pick outstanding players in a tournament and does not need to wait until the tournament ends.
“For me it is simple if I like a player, I will talk to his coach and explain why I like the player,” he explained.
