THREE secondary schools in the Makira Ulawa Province are reported to have expelled more than 26 Third, Fifth and Sixth Form students allegedly for breaking school rules.
They include the Government-owned National Secondary School at Waimapuru, the Anglican Church of Melanesia-owned St Stephen College at Pamua in West Bauro on Makira, and the Makira Ulawa Provincial Government-owned Secondary School at Pawa on Ugi Island.
The Education Division of the Makira Ulawa Provincial Government in Kira Kira says a report it has received from Waimapuru says it has expelled 16 students, Eight Form 3, Eight Form 5 and Two Form 6, while a report from Pawa Provincial Secondary School says it has expelled Eight students, Four Form 5 and Four Form 6.
But it has yet to receive a report from Pamua School on the number of students it has sacked, which means the total number of sacked students is bound to increase.
And the Diocese of Hanuato’o of the Anglican Church of Melanesia in Kira Kira could not reveal the number of students being sacked from Pamua when contacted.
Meanwhile, Chief Education Officer Gilbert Tabihau says although the students had been sacked from their schools, they can still sit their Third, Fifth and Sixth Form Examinations which will begin on November 4, but as external students.
He says so far both Waimapuru and Pawa Secondary Schools have asked the Makira Ulawa Provincial Government’s Education Division to organize a venue where the sacked students can sit their exams.
But Mr Tabihau says while his office is more than happy to organize the venue, the Exam Papers are still to arrive in Kira Kira from Honiara.
Meanwhile, an unconfirmed report claims one of the expelled Waimapuru School students is the daughter of a very senior public servant, who had been alleged to have allowed a male student to enter the Girls’ Dormitory at night allegedly after alcohol consumption. No others details are available.
