CHIEF Executive Officer of Solomon Islands Electoral Commission, Jasper Highwood Anisi has declared three winning candidates for provincial election in Malaita Province, Friday.
The winning candidates won their respective seats in Matakwalao ward, Malu’u and Subobono/Burianaiasi.
Two of them were Members of Provincial Assembly for Malaita province in the last term, namely Glen Waneta and Solo David Baerara.
While, George Ganiau is a new comer in the provincial politics.
Mr Anisi announced that George Ganiau was the duly elect Member of Provincial Assembly for Matakwalao Ward.
Mr Ganiau polled 968 votes whilst his runner up Mr Wane Eddie polled 697.
Anisi said that whilst the total registered electors for Matakwalao Ward was 3,655, actual votes casted was 2,984.
There were a total of seven candidates contesting the Matakwalao Provincial Seat in this year’s joint election.
For Maluú ward of Malaita Province, the CEO declared that Alifeo Glen Waneta is the MPA elect after successfully polling 860 votes and his runner up was Talui Timothy who polled 616 votes.
“The total vote casted in the Maluú ward was 2,939, total registered electors 3,548 and total rejected ballots was 14,”Mr Anisi said.
There were a total of 6 candidates contesting the Malaita Provincial seat of Maluú.
“I am pleased to officially declare that Solo David Baerara who polled 2,865 votes is the MPA elect for Subobono/Burianaiasi ward in Malaita,”Mr Anisi announced.
Maeaba Martin came in second with 914 votes. The total votes casted in the ward was 4,491, total rejected votes 24 and total registered electors for the ward was 5,923.
Results are slowly coming in and the SIEC is hoping that by Monday of next week, the remaining results should be declared.
