Security will be beefed up for the fortnightly boxing bouts organized by the Honiara Amateur Boxing Association (HABA).
According to the HABA executive they will be engaging the Honiara City Council (HCC) law enforcement officers to provide security during the bouts.
The plan to step up security is due to complaints from spectators saying that some people were under the influence of liquor which the HABA sees as not good for the boxers as well as the general public who came to watch.
“From the previous fights we have realized that some people were under the influence of liquor and have caused some disturbance.
“We have also received complaints from spectators and this has prompted us to take action to make a friendly environment for all during the fights.
“We want people to respect spectators as some are women and children.”
As part of the security measures planned to be taken by the HABA Executive, the number bouts will be reduced to below 20.
