International Children’s Day should be a day to remind everyone about the importance of shaping and investing in the future of the children.
That’s according to Liliati Pitakaji Early Childhood Education (ECE) Coordinator who represented the Western Province Education Office.
She was speaking at the day-long international childrens day celebration in Gizo on Monday.
The event saw ten schools from around Gizo Island coming together to celebrate the annual event.
The theme for the event was: ‘Investing in our future means investing in our children.’
The program commenced with a parade from the west end of Gizo and concluded at the MSG Complex where the main program unfolded.
Ms Pitakaji said, “This day is dedicated to all our children, the young minds who are the future of our society, province and nation.
“Children’s day brings us joy to see your bright faces, full of curiosity and energy.
“Children’s day reminds us of the importance of children in shaping the future of our society.
“It is a day to recognise your talents, dreams and potential,” she said.
She stressed to the children mostly students that each of them has something unique to offer in the society, education provider and other caregiver.
She also reminded parents that they also have a responsibility to guide and nurture the growth of their children.
Ms Pitakaji encourages all of the children to continue being inquisitive, creative and kind.
“The values you learn today will shape the adults you become tomorrow.
“Remember, every great achievement starts with a dream, and every dream can become a reality with hard work and dedication,” she said.
She also used the occasion to further encourage parents to invest in their children’s education because that’s they only way out for a brighter future.
Guest of honour and Western Provincial Secretary Patrick Toiraena said, parents have an important role to guide and lead the children in the right path.
He said, children must work and study hard inorder to achieve their dreams.
“Remember that every great achievement begins with a dream! And every dream can become reality with hard work and dedication,” he said.
A representative from the United Church told the gathering that children are a gift from God and must be nurtured and supported at all times.
