A NEW eco-lodge for the adventurous traveller has just opened its doors on Rendova Island in Western Province.
Called Titiru Eco Lodge, it was located northwest on Rendova island, about 40 minutes’ drive from Munda airport.
Titiru is surrounded by untouched marine life with beautiful landscape at its background.
The facility has self-contain bungalows furnished with local designs and furniture that overlooked the harbour.
The lodge have a common kitchen and dining area. It can be accessed either by boat transfers from the domestic airport and by passenger boat that is docked at the Ughele village Wharf.
Activities offered are range from Bush Trekking, bird watching, Eel fish-feeding, village tour, cave tour and tabu sites tour.
Titiru Eco-lodge has friendly staff and takes pride in guest comfort and safety.
The establishment is locally owned and therefore rules are flexible regarding checking in/out policy.
It is surrounded with mangroves and feeding fish is one of the favourite activities done mainly by kids.
Accommodations are built mainly from local bush materials with affordable rates.
When accessing the Titiru Eco-lodge by boat transfer from the domestic airport it costs $90 NZ per person.
Guest is welcomed on arrival with sweet cool coconuts juices and is garland with fresh flowers or shells with local bamboo bands for entertainment.
In an exclusively interview with Solomon Star yesterday Titiru Managing Director Kilo Paza said the establishment became operational after Ministry of Culture and Tourism(MCT) officially handed over the facility to him last month.
“I was happy when government officials handed over the facility to me,” Mr Paza said.
“Now this business brings income to my family and generates income for villagers and community on Rendova,” he said.
Mr Paza added the eco lodge have four completed bungalows, with plans to build additional ones in the future.
“Now I’m planning to erect two more bungalows, one for those coming for their honey moon and the other for families since demand for these two is growing.”
He said this year, guests have been coming in almost every week from everywhere around the world.
Mr Paza said in some weeks, he was unable to accommodate bookings due to limited accommodation.
“This is why I’m planning to build additional bungalows,” he said.
He added his guests enjoy climbing Rendova mountain, observing crab nights, and interest in the mangrove habitat.
“Beside these, we organised village tours, cave walk, bush walk, snorkelling and crocodile watching.
“These are the kind of activities that attract tourists to my place.”
Meanwhile, Mr Paza thanked the government for recruiting Fijian Josefa Tuamoto as chief executive officer of Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau.
He said through Mr Tuamoto’s connections and assistance, he had seen his tourism business flourishing.
