Chairman of West Rennell Resource Owners Association Jonathan Tohuika has appealed for assistance to support his High Court cased filed on behalf of the people to save Rennell from mining destructions.
Speaking to the Solomon Star after leaving the court room yesterday morning, Tohuika lost faith in his case, after sighting two professional Aussie lawyers representing Asia Pacific Investment (APID) in court.
He said, Australian lawyers are well versed with mining laws, hence local lawyers would find it hard to beat them in court.
Therefore, Tohuika called on the Member of Parliament (MP) for Rennell/Bellona and the provincial government to financially assist his High Court case, by using the constituency fund of SBD$4 million currently with the Minister for Health, Dr Kaitu’u Angikimu’a.
He added this $4 million worth spending on this case to save the island, where the only place our people called home on the face of this earth.
“Use the constituency fund to hire any overseas lawyer for the case, since the mining issue is a matter of life or death for Renbel people,” he said.
Tohuika also called on the Renbel provincial government to use the ward grants to assist in financing the case, by stating that it is better than spending the money on beer and motel accommodations.
