The award winning goal-keeper for the Renbel U19 boys in the recent Youth Solomon Cup tournament Darwin Aomatangi says the ‘Golden Glove’ award is a boost to his football career.
Speaking to Star Sports after being awarded the U19 Youth Solomon Cup Golden Glove Award Darwin said, its the first time he has received such an award from a big competition organized by the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF).
“This is the first time I have received such an award from a big competition organized by SIFF.
“It will surely help encourage me in my football career.
“I can’t express how happy I am; thank God, for without him this won’t be possible.
“I also like to thank my team mates; they all helped in my achievement.
“I am still learning, every game I learn new things.
“I will try my best to discipline and work hard to achieve more,” he said.
Darwin who is also a rugby player sets his focus for more football actions in the future.
He said he was encouraged by some of his relatives and friends to take up goal keeping and thought that he should give it a shot.
Most of the Renbel players are quite new to football but believed with the recent placing in the Youth Solomon Cup U19 category will help motivate them to push and work harder for future competitions as well as their football careers.
Renbel finished fourth in the U19 category, a huge achievement and history for a rugby loving province to reach fourth place against most of the renowned provinces who are strong contenders in football in the country.
Darwin and his team mates were selected from small organized competitions in the Renbel province.
“Its just the beginning for us and we look forward for a tough performance in future competition.
“Finally I would like to thank all who have supported us in one way or the other and help us achieve our awards,” he said.
