SOLOMON Island Visitors Bureau (SIVB) and Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) are urged to do more awareness about tourism in rural area.
Provincial Tourism Minister for Western Provincial Government (WPG) Chris Mesepitu highlighted this during the 2015 council of tourism meeting in Honiara last week.
Mr Mesepitu told the forum that awareness for tourism needs to reach every ruralarea in Solomon Islands.
“Before doing any plans about tourism, we need to do more tourism awareness in provincial level because this is the success of tourism”
“For past years nothing has been done by SIVB/MCT to make people aware about tourism.
“Therefore I’m urging MCT/SIVB to start carrying out tourism awareness in rural areas because there are some people who are not well versed with this industry,” MrMesepitu said.
Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT), JohnWasi thanked Mr Mesepitu for raising the issues in the forum.
“My Ministry will take note of that and we’ll try our best to ensure our awareness program is activated in the country.
“Already we have started off our touring awareness program in the provincesand inspections of tourism sites. We’ll continue more on that this year and next year,” Mr Wasi said.
