FOLLOWING much publicity about Simbo Islands, Western Province over the past weeks, a delegation from the Ministry of Culture& Tourism (MCT) and Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau (SIVB) will conduct a short visit to the island this weekend.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary (PS) John Wasi told the Solomon Star on Tuesday that the visit is part of the ministry new strategy approach to visit and experience the uniqueness and cultures of Simbo Island.
“This visit is part of a joint collaboration between SIVB and MCT to visit islands to see some unique products and cultures which we be sold overseas.
“Most time we concentrate on Gizo islands which everyone knows very well. But for Simbo it had many uniqueness such volcano,customs houses and conservation which in the best interest of visitors who wants to visit such place,” he said.
The visit will be a one day trip.
After Western Province, the team will visit Malaita, Makira and other provinces later.
“We want to make sure some of the unique places in the country are visited to identify their products for promotions purposes so we’ll started off with Simbo this weekend,” Mr Wasi said.
Solomon Star’s Moffat Mamu visited the Simbo Islands over the Christmas and following his return, he had been writing about about the island.
Meanwhile tourism operators in Gizo and Simbo who have any queries about tourism can meet the delegation during the visit to Gizo and Simbo.
