Dear Editor – This Friday in Honiara, Tourism Solomons will host a summit with Solomon Islands industry leaders to those from the ministry, airline and tourism office, local hoteliers, other accommodation operators, transport providers, and tour companies – all working towards fully agreed, fully aligned set objectives in order to focus on the opportunities domestic tourism offers in the current environment.
Altogether it is expected 80 delegates will attend the summit at the Heritage Park Hotel with the theme, ‘Lokal Tourism – Redefine, Readjust and Realign.
The summit it is expected will also discuss the steps the industry needs to take, both as individuals and as a collective, to ensure the sector is well prepared and ready to compete for when borders reopen.
It is said the summit is the next chapter in the MCT/Tourism Solomons ‘Five-Point Strategy’ launched mid-2020 aimed at boosting the country’s domestic tourism numbers, in the process increasing revenue-based opportunity for the country’s severely-impacted tourism industry.
I wish for a well-attended gathering of tourism leaders on Friday and a successful outcome which will lead to much greater participation in domestic holiday travel in a country that has so much to offer in holiday and recreational places of beauty in relation to many other regional destinations.
