A three-days ‘training of trainers’ workshop on Gender Equality and Violence Against Women concluded on Friday at the Heritage Park Hotel.
The workshop was designed to enhance understating and responses to critical issues surrounding gender and violence.
Participants of the workshop included representatives from Public Solicitors Office (PSO), Office of Director Public Prosecution (ODPP), Law Reform Commission (LRC), Legal Policy Unit of the Ministry of Justice, Police Prosecution Department (PPD), and Safenet-Honiara City Council (HCC) and Seif Ples.
The training workshop provided valuable skills and knowledge to participate from various agencies, equipping them to become effective trainers and advocates within their sector.
It also highlighted achievements and the impact of the training on promoting gender equality and addressing violence against women.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Apolosi Bose representing Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said, they have been working on the federal work plan last year to identify the priorities that they should be doing this year and they struggled with getting their support for this kind of gender-based violence (GBV) power relations, gender and power relations training.
“Sometimes we look at it with fear because we don’t understand what it is.
“Because if those of you who attended a lot of training on gender will know that we don’t talk about power relations enough and we don’t talk about GBV enough, and sometimes half knowledge is dangerous.”
Mr Bose while congratulating the participants encouraged the trainees to share what they have learnt from the training.
He said assured the trainers that DFAT will support them when they conduct trainings in their agencies.
