FORMER Member of Parliament for West Honiara Constituency, Namson Tran has denied claims of purchasing land through corrupt means.
The former Chairman of Caucus took a stand against baseless accusations made by opposing candidate Wilson Mamae and the leader of the Coalition for Accountability Reform and Empowerment (CARE) party during their recent campaign.
“They alleged that I sold the Karaina land owned by the Karaina communities which was obtained by me back in 2011 under my name and trustees of the community.
“I am eager to tell people the truth because I have proofs and documents to verify and not make lies like them,” he said.
Mr Tran also responded to allegations made by the duo regarding the Tasahe B land.
“They also accused me of owning Tasahe B land and they promised to give it back to the people if they win the election.
“Well, that land was mine and I bought it from the government and I am going through the process of purchasing the land and sub-divide into 41 plots,” he said.
“I got the land at the price of $318,000 and I bought it with my own money and that land will be freely offered to 41 families who reside at Tasahe B,” he added.
Mr Tran further revealed that three nights ago when the candidates conducted their campaign at Bishop Epalle, they alleged in front of Police officers that he (Tran) used people’s money to purchase the Tandai land.
“I never used people’s money to buy and own that land and the LCC has cleared me of any misuse and misconduct with regards to the people’s money as I was accused of by the candidate (Mamae) in his campaign.
“They also alleged that I rented the land to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) for $200,000.00 per month and that the money is transferred to an overseas account.
“The true information about the land is that it is with me and what they offered was just not enough,” Mr Tran said.
