WITH less than a day before the country goes to the polls, many registered voters in Western Province who are based in Honiara embarked on their trips by boat and plan to cast their votes in their respective constituencies.
Three boatloads of voters are expected to arrive in the province, Tuesday.
All ships that departed for the Western Province since Monday are operated by Fairwest Shipping Limited.
They included Fair Glory, Fair Lady and Fair Chief.
These ships are owned by the immediate former Member of Parliament (MP) for Marovo, Chachabule Amoi. He is recontesting the Marovo Seat.
MV Fair Glory is expected to arrive in Gizo later this afternoon after departing Honiara after 1pm yesterday.
According to one of the voters Kims Nathan, “the boat was packed with voters.”
The boat was supposed to depart at 10am but because it was overloaded, officials from Solomon Islands Maritime Authority (SIMA) had to conduct a check before the ship was able to depart after 1pm.
Another boat MV Fair Lady was due to depart Honiara yesterday afternoon for some of the ports in Western Province such as Ughele, Noro, Ringgi and Gizo.
Fair Lady is expected to arrive in Gizo later this afternoon as well.
And the Provincial Capital is expected to be filled again as more voters arrive to travel onward to their various constituencies.
MV Fair Chief is expected to leave Honiara for Marovo after midnight and will travel as far as Seghe.
It would arrive in Marovo this morning carrying the majority of Amoi’s voters.
Since last month, most of the inter-island vessels have been busy transporting voters from Honiara to the provinces.
All the boats are expected to be busy until next month in order to return most of the voters from the provinces to Honiara.
