Three Solomon Islands Swimming athletes will be part of a training camp in Okinawa, Japan next week.
The trio, Clement Laviara, Eddie Iro and Angela Charles departed yesterday.
They were accompanied by the NOCSI Vice president, Golden Kiloko, Coach Stans Beula and JICA Volunteer, Sho Yonahara.
They will attend a two weeks training camp in Okinawa where they will undergo training with professional coaches.
The trio was selected during the Easter swimming competition out of 20 swimmers following their impressive performance.
“It’s a very good opportunity for these athlete to get some experience, exposure and have the real feel of the top swimming facilities in the world,” Coach Beula said.
The purpose of the training camp is to improve competitiveness of the Solomon Islands swimming team, for Solomon Islands and Okinawa Prefecture to interact in sports and for Solomon Islands to have a contract to hold camp until the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The NOCSI Office thanked the Japanese National Olympic Committee and Government for the opportunity given to these three athletes to prepare for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Vice president, Kiloko said this sets the start of the pathway for Solomon Islands swimmers for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Kiloko will travel on behalf of NOCSI to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Okinawa Prefecture Swimming Federation and NOCSI.
All costs will be met by the Japanese Olympic Committee.
