The People’s Forum set down for Tuesday at the National Museum auditorium has been postponed until further notice.
Reports said, this was due to the last minute advice from the National Museum head office to cancel the meeting.
No explanation was given for the cancellation but Forum Solomon Islands International (FSII) hopes there is no political directive from those above the responsible Ministry to reject this timely People’s forum.
FSII Chief Executive Officer Ben Afuga said, it is regrettable that the Ministry responsible has seen it fit to cancel the booking at the 11th hour, since many stakeholders, community leaders, Church leaders, youth groups, diplomatic missions, donors and other international organizations have been formally invited.
He said the OMPC, Office of the leader of Opposition and leader of Independent have also been invited including two provincial Premiers, including the Honiara City Council Mayor and Clerk were also invited.
He said, even the Police Commissioner was also invited to attend the people’s forum.
“I hope there is no political directive from those above the responsible Ministry tostop this timely people’s forum where citizens should be able to contribute towards the development of this country in a formal, responsible and respectable manner,” he said
Despite the cancellation Mr Afuga said FSII is committed to find another new venue by Wednesday this week and will inform everyone.
