Dear Editor – The President of Workers Union of Solomon Islands (WUSI) David Tuhanuku”s call on the Government to investigate former CEO Collin Yow and his associate is a waste of time, effort and money,
The Government has a lot of urgent and important matters to attend to rather than engaging itself on petty politicking,
SIPA has its board and the management team who are capable to contain the current situation at SIPA and does not need any advice from WUSI President Mr Tuhanuku whose reputation and integrity is highly questionable.
Mr Tuhanuku must realise that memories of the Russell Islands Plantation saga where the plight of more than 1000 workers were jeopardised and currently were laid off and sacked as a result of his ill advice, which had resulted in the shutdown of RIPEL, and to-date these very sad memories still lingers.
That in itself warrants an investigation.
Mr Tuhanuku should appreciate and thankful to Mr Yow and his management for employing some 200 local employees just within a span of 12 months, overhaul the authority’s weak human resources and instil confidence and trust amongst its workforce.
No previous management or board has ever done that since SIPA’s inception.
Former CEO Collin Yow’s vision to empower indigenous Solomon Islanders to participate in partnership in the socio-economic development of our country is seen by the Indigenous Chamber of Commerce, Trade & Industry of Solomon Islands as a significant move and way forward for Solomon Islanders.
There is no hidden agenda as implied nor was any sentiments of anti-white rhetoric as speculated and aggrieved by Tuhanuku.
For the President of WUSI Mr Tuhanuku to allege or question that the SIPA reforms by former CEO Collin Yow will or are not benefiting the Indigenous people of Solomon Islands is erroneous, misleading and indeed malicious.
Tuhanuku must be living in a dream world therefore could not see. Action speaks louder than words.
The Indigenous Chamber of Commerce, Trade & Industry of Solomon Island totally condemned Mr Tuhanuku’s statement as nonsense, ignorant, absurd and lacks maturity.
We call on Mr Tuhanuku and his WUSI team to work extra hard to instil confidence, respect and trust to its organisation and members.
