WESTERN Provincial Election Manager Gideon Tuke has praised the people of the province for a peaceful election last week.
The country went to the polls last Wednesday to elect the 50 new Members of Parliament.
Tuke praised voters from Gatokae to Shortland for their co-operation, positive turn out to vote and maintaining law and order during election day and during the counting process.
Speaking to the Solomon Star Tuke thanked all the chiefs, village elders, men, women and youths for their participation in the process.
“Thank you all for your support and cooperation which resulted in a clean and trouble-free election,” he said.
He also acknowledged Returning Officers and their assistants for their outstanding performance in ensuring the process was successfully completed.
“I’d like to express my thanks to all the Returning Officers, assistants and the counting officers for their professionalism in executing their duties.
“We receive good feedbacks from every constituency,” said Tuke.
He also applauded the police in Honiara for their support in providing security and maintain law and order during the election week.
“Mostly I’d like to express my big thanks to Provincial Police Commander (PPC) in Gizo for the hard work and the efforts they put and for the deployment of police officers to every respective constituency and polling stations to maintain order and security,” he said.
He also thanked the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) for making it possible and the resources been used during the election and the declaration as it was a good outcome.
“There was no intimidation or violence when the declarations were made for the wining candidates.
“The people have generally accepted the outcome of the results,” he said.
