VARIOUS Communities in and around Tulagi in the Central Islands Province have expressed their gratitude towards the newly refurbished Tulagi Hospital.
They’ve shown this by presenting traditional gifts to the National Government, the World Bank and various stakeholders involved in the hospital improvement project on Friday.
Three Tulagi Hospital buildings refurbished under the World Bank-funded project were reopened last week.
Communities from Hagalu, Haleta, Halavo, Voloa and Savo brought baskets of root crops, including yam and taro, as well as fish and five live pigs to show their gratitude for the newly renovated hospital facility.
Handing over baskets of root crops and a pig, community representatives from each of these 5 communities expressed their heartfelt thanks for the new hospital.

“We are very excited and very grateful to have this new hospital at our doorstep. Our people are indebted for this lovely gift which will ensure we receive improved and quality health care in our own province. We cannot give you much to compare how happy we are, but to show our deepest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude, through these traditional gifts of shell money, food and pork, to show how we feel today.”
Five representatives from each of the communities came forward individually to present gifts to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Prime’s Minister Office, Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination, Ministry Finance and Treasury, MP for Ngella Constituency and Minister for Culture and Tourism, Choylin Yim Douglas and Super Construction Company Limited.
The launch of the refurbished hospital project included a plaque unveilment, a tour of the newly renovated hospital facilities led by the World Bank Project Management Unit Infrastructure Team and the Provincial Health Director and a feasting and traditional dancing entertainment.
The hospital currently serves around more than 30,000 people from Tulagi, including surrounding communities from Russell, Ngella and Savo, thus the launch and handover of the refurbished hospital is a significant milestone in the history of healthcare in the province.
