Central Islands province (CIP) on Monday kicks-off its 2014 futsal competition. It will run for over two weeks in Tulagi.
Reports said about 17 teams around the province have registered to participate in the competition.
The province’s sports department is organizing and support the competition.
The initiative is part of promoting sports in the province and to engage youths get involved, said Triky boys team manager Johnson Teava.
Mr Teava told Star Sports that competition is currently underway since kicking off on Monday.
The competition is still in its first round due to current the bad weather condition.
The team manager said, “the main purpose to initiate the competition is to get the youths involve and busy rather than getting involved in unlawful activities.
“It is also part of our preparation towards Easter in which the province plans to host an Easter competition and also in preparation towards the Solomon Games,” he said.
He said that the youths were really pleased with the initiative taken by the province to host the tournament.
The winner will get a first prize of $700, second $500 and third with $300.
Mr.Teava thanked the province’s sports executive for the initiative.
