THE Office of the Judiciary of Tuvalu, operating under the auspices of the Office of the Prime Minister, has reaffirmed its commitment to the Rule of Law with the recent extension of the contract for Resident High Court Judge, Sir John Muria.
In addition to this extension, Judge Muria has been appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of Tuvalu.
During the signing ceremony, the Governor General of Tuvalu, Sir Reverend Tofinga Vaevalu Falani expressed his gratitude to Judge Muria on behalf of the Government, stating, “Thank you for accepting this opportunity to further your service in Tuvalu. Your contributions have been recognized by the people of Tuvalu and it is my hope that your tenure will continue to uphold the Rule of Law for our citizens.”
In response, Judge Muria conveyed his appreciation to the Governor General, the Government and the people of Tuvalu for placing their trust in him.
“I am grateful for the confidence placed in me to continue serving the people of Tuvalu. I pledged to honour the oaths I have taken and to perform my duties impartially, without fear, favour, or ill-will,” he added.
According to Senior Crown Counsel, Ms Losaline Teo from the Attorney General’s Office, Judge Muria’s term is extended for an additional year, commencing on 21 December 2024 and concluding on 20 December 2025.
