The Good Shepherd Catholic Parish at Foxwood, East Guadalcanal turned up in big numbers on Sunday August 12, 2017 to witness the two important events in the parish.
Archbishop Christopher Cardone OP was welcomed with the traditional ceremony by warriors, the High Chief Sir Paul Tovua, Parish priest Fr. Brian O’Sullivan CM and Vincentian priests, parish council, visitors and the 14 local communities in the parish.
The presentation of food, shell money and chupu was well accepted by Archbishop Chris with gratitude to the people and the community.
It was His Grace’ first official visit to the parish and so the opportunity to confirm 145 Confirmation candidates.
The liturgy was led by the Ando community with cultural dances.
Archbishop in his homily encouraged the Confirmation candidates to live up as full Catholic members and be generous in offering their services to the church.
“You are now sealed with the Holy Spirit, be strong to do the right thing, make positive decisions and think what you can do for God and the church.”
He also reminded the sponsors to support these young people in their struggle and especially to instruct them in their catholic faith.
Archbishop thanked Sr. Matalena and the Salesian Sisters, the catechists and Sunday school teachers of local communities for preparing the Confirmation candidates for this special sacrament.
Spontaneously the parishioners showed their gratitude by their hearty claps.
A befitting feasting for the duo celebration was enjoyed by all and ended up with entertainment from the HNMS and different communities.
