POLICE have arrested two suspects in relation to the suspicious death of a man found along Sasafa River in the border of Baegu Asifola and Lau Mbaelelea in Malaita Province.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Leslie Kili confirmed to Solomon Star that the duo was arrested after the deceased went missing from Uniai Village in Baegu Asifola on New Year’s Eve.
PPC Kili said a medical team has already conducted a postmortem on the deceased.
His body was laid to rest on Sunday following the postmortem.
The result of the postmortem is yet to be known, but PPC Kili said police is treating the dead as highly suspicious with possibility of foul play involved.
The PPC said investigation into the matter is ongoing and he calls on those who have information regarding the case to come forward and help police with its investigation.
PPC Kili appeals to the relatives of the deceased to keep calm and refrained from taking the law into their own hands as the case is now before police.
The deceased who attended his father-in-law’s funeral at Uniai village in Baegu Asifola left on New Year’s Eve without informing his wife and in-laws.
He was found dead a week later along the Sasafa River the border between Baegu Asifola and Lau Mbaelelea on Saturday morning.
