FIRST two deaths related to COVID-19 was confirmed by Minister of Health and Medical Services this evening as cases continue to surge with a record number of 174 new cases.
This now brings the total number of positive cases to 650 as 12noon today, Dr Culwick Togamana announced in his daily national health address around 5.30pm.
He said the two deaths involved a 51 year old female and 59 year old male in their 50s who sickness such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
They tested positive with COVID.
The minister has expressed his condolences to the immediate families of the two deceased.
Minister Togamana therefore appeals to family members to get into self isolation to avoid further spread of the virus.
A total of 52 patients are currently being admitted.
Three of them are on oxygen and two of them are critical.
He also revealed that a further sixteen health officers tested positive as of this morning adding to the more than 50 nurses who were stood down after acquiring the virus.
Many others who have tested positive are on home isolation and quarantine.
