Two supporters of re-elected member for South Vella La Vella constituency, Lionel Alex, sustained injuries during a fight with supporters of runner up candidate, Rence Sore.
The fight broke out at Malasova village last Thursday, an incident Gizo police say was related to the election results.
Police in Gizo confirmed to the Sunday Star seven people have been arrested and interviewed by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers over the fight.
“One of the supporters was hit by timber on his leg while the other one received injuries on his mouth after being punched by someone,” a Gizo police spokesman said.
“The two injured persons were treated at Gizo hospital,” the officer added.
He said CID officers are likely to lay charges against the seven people after they complete their investigation.
