Two men who pleaded guilty to drinking alcohol in a public place at Point Cruz, Honiara on 4th August, 2024, has been fined $500 each on Thursday.
Anthony Fo’oka and Walter Joseph were fined after pleading guilty to the charge of Liquor Not To Be Consumed in a Certain Public Place contrary to section 65 of the Liquor Act.
Principal Magistrate Dalcy Belapitu Oligari imposed a fine of $500 in default of two weeks imprisonment, meaning if they fail to pay up by April 3, they will serve the two weeks in prison.
Police officers on patrol arrested Joseph and Sara when they were drinking from an open Sara Whiskey can pre-mix alcohol and mixture of Kwaso from a green Ace cola can respectively.
Weigant Jagilly of the Public Solicitor’s Office represents the defendants, while Police Prosecutor John Mark Saugaro is prosecuting.
