LEADERS from Malaita met the visiting United States ambassador Catherine Ebert-Gray, during which they discussed the economic challenges the province is facing.
The meeting took place at the Sir Paul Tovua parliamentary complex, where Ambassador Ebert-Gray reiterated U.S. commitment to the Pacific region and Solomon Islands.
Apart from economic challenges, discussions also focused on human capital challenges,as well as the enduring commitment of the US Government to the development of Solomon Islands.
Earlier, USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Ann Marie Yastishock, who accompanied Ebert-Gray, told reporters her government is considering doing some work at Bina Harbour.
Bina Harbour development is a major national project that Government wants undertaken at Bina in west Kwaio.
“We are looking at developing the Bina Harbour area and also the possibilities of building the wharves in Bina Harbour,” Yastishock said.
Malaitan leaders who met Ebert-Gray include Opposition leader Mathew Wale, Planning minister Rick Hou, Premier Suidani and other MPs.
