UMI for Change (U4C) Political Party aims to build existing inclusive education policy in the country.
U4C political Party President Daniel Suidani stated this when launching the party’s manifesto in Auki recently.
Mr Suidani told the gathering that attended the launch that his party aims to build on the country’s existing inclusive education policy to further embrace students with disabilities and to commit resources and infrastructures to raise the standard and quality of education both in urban and rural areas.
Other highlighted the key intentions for the education by U4C are as follows:
- Review and reform the existing teachers’ terms of service to ensure better working conditions and benefits for teachers at the provincial and community levels;
- Review existing school fee schemes at the preschool, primary, secondary, and tertiary levels for the introduction of reforms that provide funding formulas to support schools that serve students with disabilities and students from low-income families and to address the issue of school fee payments to reflect different student needs, costs and hardships;
- Review and reform the primary and secondary education system to ensure it is tailored to suit the local context, emphasising teaching values inherent in good leadership, democracy, discipline, ethics and integrity; and
- Introduce employment education to captilize on the high youth population and lack of education opportunities. This will see the engagement of 50,000 youths over the next 10 years in learning how to restore the economy, build grassroots governance and develop urban commerce.
