GOVERNMENT sponsored students studying at the University of the South Pacific (USP) Laucala campus, who have failed more than half of their courses for the first semester, will return home.
This was revealed to this paper by an executive member of the Solomon Islands Student Association (SISA) in Suva, Fiji.
Solomon Islands Government (SIG) sponsored nearly 1000 students, who studied at the USP Laucala campus in Fiji.
The source confirmed to the paper that SISA is liaising with the education attaché in Suva to sort out issues of students failing more than half of their courses, for semester one of year 2016.
He revealed that the screening of students’ poor academic performances for the first semester resulted in the delay of allowances to be paid on time for those that are eligible to continue with their scholarships.
He also relayed the announcement from the education attaché, asking all the underperformed students to prepare for their flights to leave school and board the plane back to Honiara.
“Students who have failed 3 to 4 courses are being informed to prepare for their flight. As soon as the list released from NTU by Monday, students will be notified. Those who have done 3 courses and fail 2 of them are also informed to do the same.
“Arrangement will made known to you later. On that note, I do encourage our students who are victims of this acts: failure is like foot prints that shows our past walks but it does not shows us our future walks. Theres sunshine after all rainy days. So tell them not to give their fight for education. Thank you and Good fala night,” the announcement by Education Attaché circulated to all SIG students via student email addresses confirmed.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) when contacted yesterday confirmed to this paper that they are scrutinising academic results to recall all those poorly performed students.
