UNITED Nations Development Programme (UNDP) hosted a round-table discussion recently to frame a Memorandum of Understanding to fight corruption within the country.
A statement from UNDP said the discussion was held with SIICAC, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), the Director of Public Prosecutions, Internal Audit, and the Solomon Islands Financial Intelligence Unit.
It said the MoU will serve as a foundation to cooperate and share information with other national integrity institutions to prevent, investigate, and prosecute corruption.
“It is good that we come together here today to discuss and share information to fight the corruption crimes and build and empower transparent and accountable institutions in the country,” SIICAC Director General John Kouni said.
Under its Transparency and Accountability project, UNDP Solomon Islands provides technical and policy advice and capacity-building support to the SIICAC, aiming to reduce corruption and develop effective, accountable, and transparent institutions at all levels to ensure the effective and timely achievement of national development outcomes.
The Transparency and Accountability for the People of Solomon Islands – the Project for Strengthening the Capacities to Combat Corruption (TAPSCCC) is implemented by UNDP Solomon Islands with financial support from the Governments of Solomon Islands, Japan in Solomon Islands and the UK in Solomon Islands.
