Owners told to pay vehicle license
THE number of unlicensed vehicles travelling our roads is increasing and Police Traffic Office is calling on drivers to check their vehicles’ licenses and have them renewed immediately.
Director of Kukum Police Traffic Charles Solomon Hapatia said last week alone police arrested more than 50 vehicles.
“…a good number of them were unlicensed ones,” Mr Hapatia said.
He added that during a routine traffic check yesterday, unlicensed vehicles topped the list with 14 vehicles.
“This is a sign that unlicensed vehicles are on the rise in town today,” Mr Hapatia said.
He said some of the vehicles they arrested had expired licensed since 2014.
“This was a simple message of ignorance by the vehicle owners and yes it’s an offence.
“I want call on the vehicle owners to at least follow the right procedures, pay your vehicle license so that you can drive freely in town,” Mr Hapatia said.
“It is a sad thing to see passengers got out of the arrested vehicles in confusion.”
He said it is the duty of vehicle owners to pay their vehicle’s license to enable them to operate freely on the roads.
“It is your duty and responsibilities that if you want to run a taxi or bus service, please comply with the traffic rules so that you will move freely on the road with your passengers.
“So again, please vehicle owners, pay your vehicle licenses so that you can drive freely on the road.
“We will continue to mount the traffic checking to see that all vehicle drivers and owners comply with the rules,” Mr Hapatia said.
