THE country will continue to experience unstable weather as the severe wet weather season persists, the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) said.
On Wednesday morning, SIMS issued a Heavy Rain Warning which was effective as of 7am the same day.
The heavy rain warning issued for most provinces of the country is associated with the active trough blanketing the country.
SIMS reminded residents to stay updated through media and to prioritise their safety during this period of severe weather.
It said everyone across the country must take immediate precautions as the heavy rain may lead to dangerous conditions.
Authorities are proactively encouraging residents to prepare and implement safety measures to safeguard lives and property.
The SIMS Director David Hiriasia told a Press Conference late last year that the country could face up to three cyclones as the country heads into the cyclone season.
“The current climate status of the Solomon Islands is under La Niña watch, leading us to anticipate 2-3 tropical cyclones during this cyclone season,” he said.
Mr Hiriasia said Tropical cyclones mostly form during the El Niño, a phenomenon, which significantly affects the ocean, temperature, and atmospheric conditions.
He said El Niño is associated with reduced rainfall, whereas La Niña tends to bring increased rainfall.
“Regarding our tropical cyclone outlook for 2024-2025, the current climate status is under La Niña watch, leading us to anticipate 2-3 tropical cyclones,” Mr Hiriasia said.
