Dear Editor – I am writing to express my deep concern about the alarming rise of Gender- Base Violence (GBV) in the Solomon Islands, which is a violation of basic human rights.
Recent media reports have shown an increase in GBV which is a very grave concern. As a signatory to International human rights treaties like the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) the Solomon Islands should be legally obligated to protect the rights and safety of all women and girls.
The government must address this issue by doing more effective awareness campaigns in preventing GBV and providing all the support for victims and survivors of GBV.
We must stand together in the fight for justice for all our women and girls and make sure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
Let us create a safer environment where everyone is free from violence.
Sincerely
Alexandra Denty
