THE United States (us) is considering working in Bina Harbour, Malaita Province with other donor partners under the USAID program.
USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Ann Marie Yastishock told local journalists in a press conference in Honiara, Tuesday.
She unveiled some areas US will step into fund under the USAID program with regards to infrastructure development.
“We are looking at developing the Bina Harbour area and also the possibilities of building the wharves in Bina Harbour,” she added.
She also added that under the program they will be looking at possibilities to provide clean energy that allows rural areas located far from energy grid will also have energy access.
“Some other areas will be the constructions of schools, health centres as well as some areas on clean water supplies,” she said.
Yastishock said that these are types of soft infrastructure because they have to understand those things like maintenance issues and how to procure it online.
“The issue here is we are looking at the governance type of issue,” she said.
This paper also understands that US Ambassador to Solomon Islands Her Excellency Catherine Ebert- Gray also met with other government senior officials to discuss the issue.
Ms Gray during her press conference yesterday stated US will continue increase its presence in the region including Solomon Islands through AID and other assistance program.
