THE OUTSKIRTS community of Alligator creek, East of Honiara was awed by visiting US Navy brass band members, who put on an hour show on Monday.
Women, men, and children all came out to join the fun at the newly constructed Assembly of God (AOG) Gateway church area.
The band was invited to perform at the community by the 2013 U.S. Department of State’s Secretary’s International Women of Courage Award winner, Beverly Komasi.
Members of the brass band said they received the invitation and with no hesitation decided to spend time with community people in the area.
“This area is also one of the many World War II historical sites, so our connection to these areas is strong.”
Beverly Komasi said that it is an honour for such the community to host the world class brass band.
“This is an outback area and I feel that bringing the US Navy brass band to this place will be a good thing.
“Everybody here really enjoyed the band’s performance and it is history for this community because it is a new thing for most of the people here.
“Nothing is too hard for someone that has a good partnership with US to arrange for such a wonderful show like this.
“I feel that my people in this community deserved to be part of what has been experienced in the outside world,” the courageous mother said.
The US Navy brass band is part of the Pacific Partnership Program 2015.
