As the countdown to welcome 2025 gets underway many young children and youths have resorted to blowing vuvuzela plastic trumpets to celebrate and welcome the new year.
Many communities and settlements in Honiara are currently filled with the honking sounds from the plastic trumpets.
Unlike the past years, the availability of trumpets is now accessible at every shop in the city at an affordable price.
Since the Christmas the sporadic toots and honks have been blasted throughout many communities during the night.
And this evening, its no exception because many communities have been filled with the trumpet sounds.
While for youths, it may be a time for celebration, for young infants and the elderly people the sounds are very irritating and disturbing.
In many areas within the city, many of these youths who are armed with the trumpets grouped together and paraded along the road within their neighbourhood.
And its irritating for some families.
A West Honiara resident said, the trumpet sounds had been causing so much disturbances since the Christmas.
“And tonight around midnight, the city is expected to come alive with the trumpet sounds echoing through the communities,” he said.
He said, these vuvuzelas should be used during a sports event.
Since this afternoon, many youths have been moving around their communities blowing the trumpets.
By midnight, the sounds of the trumpets, fire crackers, loud music, bells, drums, dragging of roofing sheets and beating of the electric posts will combine to make a different sound to welcome 2025.
And its going to be a sleepless night for the city residents celebrate the start of the 2025.
Happy New Year 2025 to you all.
