A MEDICAL team from the visiting United States Navy Mercy (T-AH 19)- the world’s biggest floating hospital- will be deployed to Malaita Province next week on a four-day assignment.
USN Mercy is currently berthing in the Honiara Habour. Its visit to Solomon Islands is part of its Pacific Partnership Programme for 2022.
The upcoming deployment of a USN Mercy medical team to Malaita was revealed by the Director of the Malaita Province Health Authority, Dr Rex Maukera.
Dr Maukera said the team will be in Malaita from the 6th to the 9th of September to support the local medical team in the province to deal with cases they have identified to be dealt with by the USN Mercy medical experts.
He said the USN Mercy medical team will provide services at the Dala and Fauabu clinics in West Kwara’ae.
“This will be an opportunity for the catchment communities of the two local clinics to be served by the visiting experts from US floating hospital,” Dr Maukera said.
Dr Maukera said the other members of the USN Mercy Medical team to be deployed to Malaita will be based at the Kiluufi Hospital to provide on surgical cases, skin diseases other services at the outpatient department.
He said public is encouraged to do booking at the Kiluufi Hospital to access the services of the visiting medical team. The US Navy Hospital Ship MERCY is in Honiara as part of its 2022 Pacific Partnership Programme.
