The Vice Chancellor and President of the University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Rajesh Chandra says they intend to establish centres across the provinces.
Professor Chandra said this while delivering his key note address at the USP graduation, Friday, in Honiara.
“The university plans to establish centres in the remaining provinces as part of its effort to provide further access to tertiary education in Solomon Islands,” he said.
He added USP Solomon Islands (USP SI) Campus continued to expand its services to the provincial centres.
“It has three centres in the Solomon Islands namely: Gizo, Lata, and Kirakira.
“The Lata Centre, located in the Temotu Province, continues to strengthen its operations. Gizo Centre, in the Western Province, has recently been staffed with a full-time coordinator in June this year,” he said.
Professor Chandra saidthe Western Provincial Government executive expressed its appreciation for the appointment of the Coordinator and agreed to support the development of the USP Centre in their province during a meeting held in Gizo, July this year.
Meanwhile, he said as part of improving the governance, management, and administration of the Honiara Campus, the headship of the campus has been upgraded to that of a Pro-Vice Chancellor, and the position will be advertised internationally.
“Vacant positions are also being filled so our services should improve.”
