THE University of the South Pacific Students Association – Solomon Islands (USPSA-SI) Campus has successfully negotiated its proposal to the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) to provide work placements or attachments for USP Solomon Islands Campus students.
USPSA-SI President, Kevin Olea announced this in a statement on Monday following a courtesy meeting with MWYCFA Permanent Secretary, Dr Cedrick Alependava and various Heads of Divisions in the ministry – Youth Division Directors, Family Affairs Directors and Human Resources Management – last Friday.
Mr Olea said Dr Cedric Alependava, acknowledged him and his executive for seeing the importance and future of this country – students – and their need for work placements or attachments.
“The Ministry welcomed us and expressed support for our proposed initiative for the provision of work placements or attachments to our members.
“The Director of the Youth Division Andrea Tipoki commended the vision of the USPSA-SI in establishing such platform for the students.
“They acknowledged the leadership of USPSA-SI and welcomed our vision and are happy to take onboard 11 students to be part of our fieldwork or placement for this Second Semester.
“The 11 students have started their fieldwork placement or attachment today 31st July 2023 and will continue for 12 weeks which is equivalent to 185hours.”
President Olea said he is thankful to MWYCFA for accepting the students to do their fieldwork placement as part of their academic courses.
He said USPSA-SI courtesy visits will continue and this week will see them visit the Honiara City Council (HCC) Youth Department, Women’s Department, Social Welfare Division, Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the Guadalcanal Provincial Government.
