PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare recently announced in his weekly nationwide address that ‘vaccination now opens for all adults aged 18 years and over’.
“My good people, we have now opened the COVID-19 vaccination program to all persons 18 years and above in Honiara and Guadalcanal, Western, Choiseul and Malaita Outer Islands.
“The Ministry of Health communication team will step up and intensify efforts to create awareness and other communication activities to address fears and anxiety amongst the public on COVID-19 vaccines and encourage people to get vaccinated.
“I urge all businesses, civil society groups, churches and community leaders, popular social media groups, and so forth to unite in encouraging our people to get vaccinated. Work with our health team to disseminate correct messages to members of the public,” PM Sogavare said.
However, Prime Minister also extends his personal thanks to Our Telekom and Bmobile for continuous support to disseminate COVID-19 vaccine key messages and for encouraging people to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
“I urge all organizations, groups, and communities in Honiara and throughout the country to support for our “vaccines’ awareness teams” so that together we can achieve a 100% coverage of all eligible adults in the country.
“If we achieve this, we can achieve herd immunity, which will protect those that cannot be vaccinated,” Mr Sogavare said.
