Vehicle owners in the Malaita Provincial capital of Auki are calling on the responsible authority to fix the deteriorate roads within Auki Township.
The call came following lack of action by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MID) to maintain roads within the Township for the whole year.
MID allocated a contractor to do six months road upgrade in Auki in 2021, however, the road upgrade didn’t last as potholes resurfaced just three weeks about the road upgrade task was completed.
A vehicle owner told this paper that they want to see the Auki Township roads fixed as soon as possible to allow vehicles to travel in comfort.
The vehicle owner is of the view that any contracting company that awarded contract to fix Auki roads must deliver quality work unlike previous contractors who failed big time to deliver up to expectation.
In the meantime, there is hope for good road conditions in Auki town for this festive session as gravels were seen piled along Auki road last week.
Auki roads has been in poor condition for most part of this year leaving vehicle owners frustrated over lack of concern by MID.
With the preparation of gravels along the road last week, Auki road maintenance is expected to start this week.
