AUKI police is investigating a case where a vehicle slipped into the sea near Auki wharf, Malaita province early this week.
According to Auki police operation manager inspector David Wate, he said, the incident occurred late Monday night where the Suzuki brand vehicle slipped into the sea.
“We do not know the actual fact that caused the incident.
“We heard some reports from the public but our officers will do a proper investigation about the incident.”
Mr Wate said, after the incident the driver himself reported the matter to the police.
However the driver was believed to be under the influence of liquor.
Mr Wate calls on all drivers and vehicle owners to respect the traffic law and not to drink and drive.
“The public and police should work together to keep our town from anti-social behaviours and not to create accidents and problems but to make our town a safe place to live.”
The vehicle is believed to be owned by a private civil engineering firm working in Malaita province.
It was later retrieved using an excavator owned by Dalgro company which currently doing road maintenance in Auki.
No casualties were reported during the incident.
