POLICE PROBE MISSING CAR

POLICE are investigating a vehicle that has gone missing from the Kukum Police Station compound last month.
Acting Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau confirmed this at the first weekly commissioner’s media conference for this year, yesterday.
“Police are investigating this matter and the Police’s Professional Standards and Internal Investigations (PSII) are actually carrying out investigation into this complaint of the missing RAV 4,” Mangau said.
“It is a serious breach of police conduct and police are taking this incident seriously,” he added.
He said if the action is taken by the police, they will seriously deal with the issue.
“…..at this point in time PSII continues to seriously work on this and are talking with officers at the Kukum police station and the complainant.”
The acting police chief said the outcome of this investigation would be determined based on the findings into the investigations.
Mangau is also urging members of the public if they have any information to come forward to the police and assist PSII in this investigation.
He told reporters that the RAV 4 was taken to the Kukum Police Station after it was involved in an accident with an ambulance from the National Referral Hospital (NRH) at Kukum.
Reporters were told that the RAV 4 was making its way out of road at Florence Young junction when it hit the ambulance making an emergency run.
The incident happened on 9 September 2019, and the vehicle was taken to the Kukum Police Station afterwards.
It was on December 25 when the owners of the RAV 4 discovered their vehicle was missing from the Kukum Police Station.
The owner of the vehicle, Nicole Nina said when she first went to check on her vehicle last month at the station, she was surprised to see some properties inside her vehicle missing.
Few days later, she went to check her vehicle again but only to find that her vehicle was no longer there.
She said when she asked the officers at the station, none of them knew where her vehicle was or taken to.
She criticized the station for not having CCTV cameras and no proper security support.
