VENDORS have continued to call on responsible authorities to mend the south road, which is in its worst state due to the continuous wet weather experienced in Malaita.
Market vendors who said they have been dually affected by the lack of reliable transportation and the deteriorating condition of the South road from their rural areas to Auki, called for prompt action to be taken and repair done to the roads in Malaita.
“We have had difficulties transporting ur produces to be sold at the market from our villages, using the South road,” one vendor told the Solomon Star in Auki.
“However, it gets really frustrating at times especially since we have difficulty with the lack of reliable transportation to and from our areas, also with the bad state of the south road and of course the continuous road blocks set up by youths in the area, it is really hurting our business,” she said.
Another said that these are areas the provincial government should look closely into and addressed.
He added that such are development issues that need urgent attention.
“This is development, improvement of our current infrastructure to help us the grassroots people.
“If such is not development in the eyes of our own government then we as vendors do not know what is,” he said.
Meanwhile, youths in the area have taken advantage of the situation by filling up the pot holes and demanding payment from transport owners.
