The Solomon Islands Compact Peer Review report on the progress of Aluta Basin Palm Oil was a joke, an east Malaita man said.
William Ko’oru said the report labelled the initial stages of the project a ‘success’.
“I understand the report was published in February last year, and it was a total mockery of the project.
“I think, NCRA was trying to please donors and or fulfil requirements, that was why they put in the report that palm oil trees have grown up.
“The truth is, only two trees planted by the former Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo and the late Fred Fono during the ground breaking ceremony, are grown trees.
“The project was launched in 2000 but nothing happened after the funds were exhausted.
“Pictures carried in the report did not reflect what was on the ground.”
The Darione villager urged the responsible ministry to send officers to the site and get a correct report about the status of the proposed project.
The project stopped when funds allocated for it dried up.
