A three days business training at Papagu village in north Guadalcanal ended successfully on Friday.
About 55 participants attended the workshop which was funded by United Nation Security Trust fund.
The program was conducted by International Labour Organisation (ILO).
Roy Fugui, ILO project coordinator in Solomon Islands said the main purpose of the training was to help villagers ran their small businesses in the community level and to help them to know how to manage themselves.
“The people of Papagu village are so fortunate to receive this training without any expenses spent for fees or attending universities to do these courses.”
He said these courses take years for people to undertake it in universities but the community was fortunate to undertake it for only three days and received certificates.
Jeff Alexander secretary for Papagu community said the people of Papagu were excited to learn new things from the training which will really help them to start their own business or continue with their existing ones.
“We appreciate what the ILO had done and also looking forward in growing up what we learn in our community.”
He said the workshop really helped youths who have been involved in anti-social behaviour.
“It keeps them from involving in such activities while encouraging them to start their own business. The training also boosts the knowledge of those business men and women who have already engaged in some forms of businesses,” Mr Alexander.
