Members of the South Seas Evangelical Church (SSEC) at Bina, west Kwaio, Malaita, have begun renovating church building.
The church was built in the early 1950s and has run down over the years.
Church chairman Silvanus Ramo said wear and tear, as well as white ants, have had their share of the building, resulting in its current state.
“We are not only renovating, but also expanding the church because our population has increased quite a bit over the years,” he said.
“In fact our church membership now stands at 2,000 people.”
Ramo said building materials used in the renovation were purchased from funds raised by the community.
“Gravels and sands were contributed by the community as well.
“Besides, private business owners as well as funds drawn from the constituency were used to meet the renovation cost.”
Ramo said they still need additional materials to fully complete their renovation work.
He thanked their members and the community for their contributions.
