Tulagi Police have arrested a male suspect for assaulting his wife at Toga village in Central Province (CP) recently.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent David Soakai, said the arrest came about after the wife reported his husband to the police for smoking marijuana.
PPC Soakai said it was alleged that the suspect got angry, grabbed a wooden paddle and struck his wife on her leg, and she escaped.
Superintendent Soakai said upon her return in preparation for church service, her husband went inside their room, tearing all her clothes, and started assaulting her.
Mr Soakai said the suspect threw objects at her, kicking and punching her while she lay helplessly on the floor.
A couple showed up and assisted her to their home, where her brother came and took her to the clinic to get medical attention and reported the matter to the police.
After dealing with the suspect, police released him on bail so he could appear in court on 28th July 2025.
